Pro Iranian Regime Stooges Visit the White House

Senior Obama Administration officials held hush-hush meetings with pro-Iranian regime stooges at the White House last week. keeping the news quiet until after the day-long conference was over to avoid protests from the Iranian-American community.

According to subsequent news reports, the White House billed the event as the first ever “Iranian-American Community Leader’s Roundtable.”

But the inclusion of pro-Tehran stooge Trita Parsi and his National Iranian American Council (NIAC), which has consistently lobbied Congress against sanctions and against support for the pro-freedom movement, shows that this was a roundtable designed to legitimize the pro-Tehran lobby, not represent the Iranian-American community.

At a Capitol Hill conference sponsored by my opponent in 2007 , NIAC revealed its positions against sanctions and against funding pro-democracy programs in Iran, positions my opponent championed. And yet today, now that he has seen which way the political winds are blowing, Chris Van Hollen Jr. has flip-flopped and now claims to support “economic pressure” against the Iranian regime.

Which is it, Chris? “Negotiations without preconditions,” the policy you were urging the incoming Obama administration to adopt in 2008? Or “economic pressure,” the policy you adopted in December 2011 when it became apparent the entire U.S. House of Representatives supported the Iran Threat Reduction Act (HR 1905)?

My supporters know where I stand. I support funding the pro-freedom movement in Iran because I believe this is the best investment we can make in America’s national security. And I support a Justice Department investigation of NIAC for acting as an unregistered lobbyist for the Tehran regime.
